It is hard to plug into this story when our culture knows less and less of what is true. Through Hosea, God said that “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children” (4:6). We see so many of the consequences of this lack of knowledge today. I have experienced some of them as I’m sure we all have.

I found no easy way to plug into the great story back when I discounted and doubted the Garden of Eden, Adam, Eve, temptation, sin, redemption, grace, and all that Genesis lays out so clearly. For that matter, I knew I had no answers to society’s plagues like why so many marriages fail, tough conundrums like why evil exists, tragic histories like the holocaust, or why we can feel so empty. Then through the study of stars, rocks, genetics, history, logic, and the Bible itself I started to plug in. I wish in these pages to make a case for why everyone should take a closer look at the historicity, reliability, and relevance of Genesis as a firm foundation for understanding history, interpreting scientific observations, rebuilding strong families, knowing ourselves, and ultimately knowing God.
